China has been a home to me for a long time and currently I'm in Guiyang. My name is Glenn Bennett also known as 林非. Teaching has become a career that I enjoy including kindergarten school teaching. If a school would give me the chance, I know that I will be diligent in my walk with you as a team. Students will be entertained yet focused on the lessons at hand. I arrived in China September 14, 2005.
For my entire English teaching career in China, I have taught in every category of learning institutions with the exception of that being college. That is to say I have taught at a kindergarten, international schools, boarding schools of all grades, IELTS for 2 years, and various training centers. Certainly, collage ages students were taught in my career but not at a college setting. Therefore, I have plenty of experience and understanding in the English teaching industry.
VIsually oriented techiques: I'm very visual and animated when it comes to teaching and that is my personality in general. Both many pictures and visuals are used heavily to grab the students’ attention while having flashcards mainly for vocabulary introduction and sentence drilling. When they do well, I add points for both competition and reward. What really makes teaching pleasurable is engaging in competition between the students for points. They are quite competitive when their points are subtracted or added for the reward or penalty. They just learn and speak while targeting their true goal: which is to win! I am also quite humorous which also keeps the students engaged easily.
Interest for teaching grammar: Another area in being a classroom educator that I find interesting is grammar. I love teaching it and the enjoyment mainly comes from learning different languages on my own. So, I can apply it to others. I was able to teach 4 and 5 year olds difficult grammar structure though technique and games. However, in many cases the Chinese staff informed me that grammar in general should be left for the Chinese assistants. Nonetheless, my teaching was successful from what was instructed.
My pleasurable pass-time interests: I have several hobbies and interests in my personal time that could be of importance to your school. I can speak at times close to fluent Chinese, and I am able have strong conversation in Spanish as well. When I have more time, I will improve my Cantonese. Crafts and music also interest me especially when I work with little children while forming special bonds.
Certifications and Awards: Though I never really had much opportunity to enter competitions during my career, I did win an award in 3rd place at the national teaching competition at i2 training center in 2017. I was amongst 11 other 3rd place winners. My TEFL certification was completed in December 2007.
In Short: I understand schools nationally really take pride in their foreign teachers because they represent the international stage in China. So the expectation from us is understandably high.
